In a last-minute decision, Kenya’s Harambee Stars have pulled out of the CECAFA Four Nations Tournament in Tanzania.
The withdrawal, announced by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on Monday, July 21, 2025, was based on recommendations from Head Coach Benni McCarthy’s technical bench, citing “unsuitable conditions” for the team’s participation and preparation.
The surprising move, just hours before their opening match against Uganda, leaves the tournament’s schedule in disarray.
The Harambee Stars were already in Tanzania but will now return to Kenya to focus solely on preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to begin in less than two weeks.
This eleventh-hour decision follows Senegal’s recent replacement of Congo Brazzaville in the same tournament, highlighting ongoing logistical challenges for the warm-up event.
