Work on the multi-million dollar Hoima City Stadium has entered the final and most visible phase, with contractors beginning to lay hybrid grass on the training pitch, a major milestone in the lead-up to the stadium’s structural completion.
As of Monday, July 21, the hybrid grass installation is underway, starting with the training pitch.
The roofing membrane has now reached two-thirds completion, while steady progress continues across other components of the 34-acre sports complex.
These include the indoor arena, swimming pool, and expanded parking areas.
The update marks another step forward for the $129 million project, which is key to Uganda’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The stadium’s contractors, Turkish firm Ms Suuma, have maintained an aggressive schedule since construction began in September 2024.
Earlier this month, flower planting and landscaping were already underway, the trusses were fully installed, HVAC systems were nearing completion, and internal works like painting and electrical fittings were being finalized.
Once complete, the stadium will feature a 20,000-seater main arena, a 2,000-capacity indoor facility, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, outdoor courts, and a training pitch.
Hoima City leaders have continued to encourage residents to prepare for the economic boom expected to follow the stadium’s completion, urging youth and local entrepreneurs to tap into opportunities in agriculture, tourism, and small-scale business.
