Algeria coach Madjid Bougherra has unveiled his 26-man squad for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to kick off on August 2nd across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The “Local Fennecs” are aiming for their first continental title after finishing as runners-up in the last edition.
The finalized squad features a strong mix of experience and emerging talent, with Aymen Mahious leading a potent attacking line that includes Meziane, Mechid, Akhrib, and Kohili.
The midfield boasts seasoned players like Benkhemassa and Draoui, while the defense is anchored by a familiar core from top Algerian clubs.
However, the squad sees the absence of two key players: midfielder Abderaouf Benguit, reportedly due to injury, and striker Redouane Berkane, who is ineligible as he finalizes a move to Belgian club Zulte Waregem.
Berkane’s exclusion, despite his impressive 10 domestic goals last season, is a notable loss to Algeria’s attacking options.
Drawn in a competitive Group C alongside South Africa, Uganda, Guinea, and Niger, Algeria will begin their campaign against Uganda, determined to shed their runner-up tag and clinch the CHAN trophy.
