Reigning champions Senegal have unveiled their 25-man squad for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), with coach Souleymane Diallo making waves by excluding top domestic scorer Papa Doudou Diallo.
Midfielder Serigne Moctar Koité is the sole survivor from the 2022 title-winning squad, tasked with bringing vital experience to a largely new team.
Despite his 11 goals this season, Papa Doudou Diallo’s omission has been a major talking point.
Coach Diallo, however, stands firm, stating, “I am convinced that I have chosen the best players for this mission. On the day of the competition, I hope these boys will prove me right.”
The squad features a blend of in-form local talents, including Mapathé Mbodji, Ligue 2’s top scorer, alongside established players like Layousse Samb and Mbaye Ndiaye.
Drawn in Group D, Senegal will face Nigeria, Congo, and Sudan, with their opening match against Nigeria on August 5.
