The adrenaline-fueled National Karting Championship returns for its second round on August 2nd, with young drivers gearing up to battle it out at the Lubowa Karting Race Track from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
With 19 entries already confirmed, this round promises high-speed thrills and tight competition.
Organised under the banner of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), the event will feature three race formats and a growing number of youthful talents eager to make their mark.
FMU President Akena Jimmy underscored karting’s pivotal role in Uganda’s motorsport ecosystem, calling it the perfect launchpad for future champions.
“We consider karting very important because we see it as a key area for nurturing young stars across Uganda,” Akena said.
This year’s championship comes with a major incentive. According to Clerk of Course Ibrahim Kyaluzi, top performers will have a shot at competing in the prestigious Sodi World Series events in Dubai and Malaysia.
“Throughout the year, drivers who accumulate the most points will have the chance to represent Uganda on the international stage,” Kyaluzi noted.
Raymond Mugisha, President of Formula One Uganda, echoed this excitement, highlighting karting’s youth focus and long-term value for the sport.
“The future of karting is bright in Uganda because it’s for the youth, from just four years old up to 35. It’s time we gave it the spotlight it deserves,” Mugisha said.
