Fresh off a successful broadcast of the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup, NBS Sport will this Saturday, July 26, continue its live rugby coverage with the Africa-Asia Rugby World Cup qualification playoff between Namibia and the United Arab Emirates.
The match, set for 4 PM at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, will be preceded by expert analysis from 3 PM on the channel.
Coverage will feature commentary and analysis from NBS Sport’s trusted rugby panel, including Ernest Akorebirungi, Jermaine Egesa, and John Vianney Nsimbe.
The trio has been central to NBS Sport’s growing rugby audience, delivering in-depth analysis and passionate commentary.
Programs Manager Jovita Musimenta confirmed the station’s commitment to showcasing top-tier live sporting action.
“As NBS Sport, our commitment is to bring Ugandans closer to the best of local and international sports,” she said.
“From the Rugby Africa Cup to the National Basketball League, Boxing Champions League, and National Pool League; we continue to provide a platform for live sports action.”
Saturday’s playoff pits Namibia, the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup runners-up, against UAE, the second-best side from Asia.
The winner of the one-off tie will progress to the Final Qualification Tournament, also known as the Repechage, set for November in Dubai. There, four teams will battle it out for the final slot at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
Namibia are chasing an eighth consecutive World Cup appearance, while UAE are seeking to make history with their debut on rugby’s biggest stage.
The Final Qualification Tournament will feature the Africa-Asia playoff winner, the South America Rugby Championship bronze medallist, the South America-Pacific playoff loser, and the fifth-placed team from Rugby Europe.
Zimbabwe, who defeated Namibia in last week’s Africa Cup final, have already secured their ticket to the 2027 showpiece. The expanded tournament will host 24 nations for the first time in history.
