Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak’s future is up in the air, with manager Eddie Howe insisting any move “has to be right for Newcastle.”
The 25-year-old Swede didn’t join the squad in Singapore due to a thigh injury, but sources tell BBC Sport he’s weighing his options amid strong interest from Liverpool, even after they signed Hugo Ekitike.
Howe acknowledged the ongoing speculation, saying, “Of course there are things going on behind the scenes.”
He praised Isak’s impact since his £60 million arrival in 2022, where he scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season.
Howe hopes Isak, who is under contract until 2028, stays but noted, “whatever happens has to be right for Newcastle.”
Despite initial reports of a minor injury, Isak is currently in Newcastle for assessment. Howe emphasized the club’s financial strength and ambition, stating, “We are determined to be successful, be ambitious.”
The manager remains hopeful Isak will stay, but as he put it, “it’s football and who knows what the future may bring?”
