Kioga Constituency have booked their spot in the final of the first-ever Dwog Pacu Cup, after defeating Dokolo North 1-0 in a tense semi-final showdown held yesterday at the UTC-Lira playground.
The match, which featured several high-profile players, was closely contested from the start.
Dokolo North lined up with URA FC winger Moses Aliro and Police FC midfielder Brian James Obedi, while Kioga’s side included Ambrose Kigozi of Kiyinda Boys, Somalia-based midfielder Brian Olega, and Black Power captain Isaac Okello.
The breakthrough came in the 34th minute. A costly slip by Dokolo North’s left-back allowed Kigozi to sneak into the box and set up Brian Ocen, who calmly slotted past goalkeeper Victor Ogwang for what would be the game’s only goal.
Despite Dokolo North pushing hard for an equalizer, Kioga’s defense stood firm. Midfielder Odongo Solomon put in a standout performance and was named Man of the Match.
In line with the tournament’s tree-planting campaign, Solomon received 30 seedlings as part of the “Plant More Trees” initiative, which aims to boost environmental awareness in the Lango sub-region.
Kioga’s win also preserves their unbeaten run in the competition. They now wait to face the winner between Lira City West and Erute North, who meet in the second semi-final today, Sunday, July 27, also at UTC-Lira.
The tournament will continue with a third-place playoff on Saturday, August 2, before the grand final on Sunday, August 3.
