Uganda Silverbacks star and Texas Longhorns standout Arthur Kaluma is one step closer to the NBA after signing an Exhibit 10 deal with the Los Angeles Lakers following a solid showing in the NBA Summer League.
The 6-foot-7, 223-pound power forward was among four college seniors unveiled by the Lakers on July 26 as new training camp additions, joining RJ Davis (North Carolina), Eric Dixon (Villanova), and Augustas Marčiulionis (St. Mary’s).
Kaluma’s contract gives him a shot at cracking the Lakers’ regular season roster, with the possibility of converting it into a two-way deal or a G League assignment.
Kaluma made a strong impression in his four Summer League outings with the Lakers, especially during a July 14 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in Las Vegas.
He dropped 12 points in 17 minutes, hitting five of eight shots and going 2-for-4 from deep. He exploded early, leading all scorers with eight points in the first quarter alone.
Beyond the numbers, it was Kaluma’s two-way play that stood out. He showed the defensive switchability and physical presence that has become his trademark with Uganda’s national team and throughout his college career.
He confidently guarded both guards and big men, offering the Lakers a taste of his all-around potential.
Kaluma arrives in Los Angeles fresh off his final college season at Texas, where he averaged double digits and brought grit to the Longhorns lineup.
He previously played at Creighton and Kansas State, starting 131 of his 134 college games and averaging 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds across four years.
Now, the Ugandan forward has a real chance to break into the world’s top basketball league.
