Acuma Benji Ebenezer and veteran star Amina Lukaaya were crowned champions on Sunday, May 27, at the debut edition of the Who is Who Table Tennis Championship held at the buzzing KQ Sports Complex in Kanyanya.
Acuma Benji proved too strong for Seroma Christian High School’s Sokiri Ayela in the men’s final. Dubbed “The Golden Boy,” Sokiri came in with high expectations, but Benji’s experience and razor-sharp play delivered a ruthless 3–0 win.
The women’s final brought a much tighter contest. Veteran Amina Lukaaya, long respected in Uganda’s table tennis circles, edged out Ivy Nekesa 3–2 in a gripping five-set thriller. Her win was a throwback to her dominant years and a clear message she’s still a force to reckon with.
The tournament, a fresh addition to Uganda’s table tennis calendar, stood out not just for its fast-paced matches but also for its commitment to rewarding talent.
Prize money was given out from the round of 16 onwards—an initiative that added incentive and recognition for up-and-coming players.
Uganda Table Tennis Association President Cyrus Mark Muwanga was full of praise after the final. He called the event “just a curtain raiser” and promised “bigger championships ahead.”
He also announced that the Who is Who tournament will now be held every two months, turning it into a regular battleground for Uganda’s finest.
Several top UTTA officials graced the occasion, including General Secretary Rukundo Joseph Ronald, fresh from officiating duties at the WTT Series in Lagos, Nigeria, Technical Director Sserulyo Ronnie, and former UTTA President Mulinda Francis.
