Burahya County became the second team to book a semi-final ticket in the 2025 MTN Kabode Tooro Kingdom Masaza Cup after seeing off Kitagwenda County with a dominant 2-0 win on Sunday at Mahyoro Playground.
Fresh from their 2-1 opening victory over Ntoroko, Burahya picked up where they left off. Ronald Kikonyogo fired them into the lead in the 27th minute with a calm finish, giving the visitors control of a game they never looked like losing.
In the second half, John Nyakoojo sealed it with a composed goal of his own, ensuring Burahya topped Group B with six points from two matches.
“We played a good game, created many chances, and managed to score in both halves,” Burahya coach Frank Businge said. “Kitagwenda is not an easy team, especially at home, so I’m happy we got the win.”
Kitagwenda’s exit was confirmed with the defeat, ending a tough campaign in which they also lost 4-1 to Ntoroko. They leave the tournament without a point, but there was some consolation as midfielder Richard Musiimenta picked up the Man of the Match award and an MTN Kabode smartphone for his standout display.
Captain Mayanja Hamimu admitted the campaign had fallen short but promised a reset.
“We didn’t play to our expectations,” he said. “We’re going back to the drawing board to plan for the next edition.”
Burahya’s reward is a semi-final clash against Group A winners Fort Portal, set to be played over two legs. It’s a showdown that promises fireworks, with both sides unbeaten and brimming with attacking quality.
Meanwhile, attention now turns to Group C, where Mwenge North host Mwenge South next Sunday in a potential group decider. The winner of that match will take on Kayaka County, who progressed as the best runner-up across all groups.
With the fourth edition of the Masaza Cup entering the business end, fans across Tooro are gearing up for a thrilling finish.
