The Uganda Cranes have named a trio of captains — Allan Okello, Joel Mutakubwa, and Rogers Ochaki Torach — to spearhead their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign, as the team looks to make a strong statement on home turf.
With the tournament co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, the Cranes will play all their Group C matches at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole, starting Monday against Algeria.
Head coach Morley Byekwaso is counting on a combination of tactical discipline, leadership, and home support to push the team beyond the group stages.
“Our target is simple — to qualify from the group stages. But this requires discipline, consistency, and extra effort because the teams we are facing are not easy,” said Byekwaso. “We must outfight and outthink them.”
The Cranes are banking on the energy from the fans to make the difference. Byekwaso has called on supporters to rally behind the team and create a home advantage that can fuel their performance.
“The players perform better when they feel the energy from the crowd. Let us fill the stadium and stand behind our boys.”
Uganda’s squad features a mix of fresh faces and experienced players, with the triple captaincy meant to ensure stability and motivation throughout the campaign.
