Uganda Cranes CHAN captain Allan Okello has promised fans that the team is fired up and ready for their opening match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set for August 4th against Algeria at Mandela National Stadium.
Speaking during his first address as team skipper at FUFA House in Mengo, Okello expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness, stressing that the players are determined to make the nation proud on home soil.
“We’re prepared. We’ve trained hard and everyone is giving their all,” he said. “Each time we see our fans behind us, it gives us the energy to push harder. We want to make history and go past the group stages.”
Uganda is co-hosting this year’s CHAN tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
The home advantage, Okello believes, could be the edge Uganda needs to finally make a statement in the competition.
The Cranes have been putting in intense tactical drills and fitness work in the final stretch of preparations, with coaching staff focused on fine-tuning the squad ahead of their Group A opener.
As anticipation builds, all eyes are now locked on Mandela National Stadium, where Okello will lead the team out under the lights in what promises to be a blockbuster start to Uganda’s campaign.
