Colombian international Luis Diaz has completed a £65.5 million transfer to Bayern Munich, ending his three-and-a-half-year spell at Liverpool.
The 28-year-old winger has signed a four-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.
Diaz, omitted from Liverpool’s recent pre-season friendly, expressed a feeling of “duty fulfilled” upon his departure.
In an emotional Instagram post, he reflected on his time at Anfield and paid a poignant tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota, stating the move would have been “the perfect goodbye if we hadn’t lost one of ours in such a tragic way.”
Liverpool accepted Bayern’s revised offer after initially rejecting a £58.6 million bid. Diaz, who joined Liverpool for £37 million in January 2022, scored 41 goals in 148 appearances.
He helped the Reds win four major trophies, including the Premier League title last season, where he enjoyed his most prolific campaign with 17 goals.
Diaz’s sale contributes to Liverpool’s £115 million in player sales this summer, offsetting significant spending on new signings like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. The Reds are also reportedly eyeing Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
