Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho has officially confirmed his departure from Tanzanian giants Yanga SC, ending a remarkable four-year spell that saw him lift four straight Tanzania Premier League titles and reach the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup final.
In a heartfelt message posted online, Aucho thanked everyone associated with the club—from teammates and coaching staff to fans and management—for what he called an “unforgettable chapter” in his career.
“Over the past four seasons, I’ve experienced intense emotions, achieved incredible goals, and built indelible memories,” Aucho wrote. “Every time I wore this jersey, I did it with pride and gratitude.”
The 31-year-old midfielder played a central role in Yanga’s domestic dominance since his arrival and was instrumental in their historic run to the CAF Confederation Cup final two years ago, a campaign he described as a dream come true.
“Reaching a CAF Confederation Cup final was a dream come true. The journey was tough, but every sacrifice was worth it. Alhamdulilah,” he added.
Aucho’s departure comes at a time of transition for the Dar es Salaam-based club, who are looking to retain their dominance at home and make another deep run in continental competition next season.
With Yanga securing Kenya’s Duke Abuya permanently and working to reshape their midfield, Aucho’s exit opens up a major gap in leadership and experience.
In his message, Aucho expressed deep appreciation to Yanga’s top brass, including club president Engineer Hersi Said and other senior officials.
He also gave a nod to his teammates, many of whom he now calls lifelong friends, and the fans who embraced him as one of their own.
“This is not a final farewell but a see-you-later, filled with hope,” he concluded. “Thank you for everything. Asante sana Wananchi.”
