Uganda’s table tennis contingent is aiming for a big finish on the final day of the 2025 ITTF African Youth Championships in Lagos, Nigeria.
After a week of intense play, the action today wraps up with semifinals and finals in several key categories, and Uganda is still in the mix for more medals.
In the under-19 girls’ singles, Uganda’s top duo Jemimah Nakawala and Judith Parvin Nangonzi face a tough challenge at midday (EAT) when they take on Egypt’s Younes Mariam and Elbasoumy Habiba in the semifinals. The final for this event will be played later today at 4:55 PM (EAT).
The under-15 boys’ singles will also see Ugandan talent in action. Sharif Nsereko, who’s had a standout tournament so far, will face Algeria’s Zouitene in a semifinal clash at 12:30 PM (EAT).
A win would send him to the final at 5:35 PM (EAT), where he’ll face either Egypt’s Sameh Asser or Nigeria’s Mustapha Musa.
Earlier in the day, Nsereko will also partner with Joseph Sebatindira in the under-15 boys’ doubles. The pair take on Egyptians Sameh Asser and Abdelhalim Mohammed in a semifinal showdown set for 11:30 AM (EAT), with the final slated for 4:30 PM (EAT).
After the Youth Championships close today, focus will quickly shift to the 2025 Africa Cup, which begins on Monday, August 4.
Uganda will be represented by a strong five-player squad: Joseph Sebatindira, Patience Anyango, Jemimah Nakawala, Judith Parvin Nangonzi and Sharif Nsereko, coached by Alvin Katumba and Tendo Balyewunya.
So far, Uganda has bagged three gold medals in the Africa Hope category, with both boys and girls contributing to the haul. Today’s finals offer a chance to add even more silverware before shifting gears to the Africa Cup.
