Mujib Kasule Urges Uganda to Prioritise Investment in Women’s Sports

Proline Director Mujib Kasule has called on the Ugandan government and corporate sponsors to shift focus toward women’s sports, saying female athletes are more likely to reach global tournaments if given the right support.

Speaking about the country’s sporting future, Kasule said Uganda’s best chance at qualifying for a World Cup lies with women.

“Men need to go and support women’s games. Government and sponsors need to invest also in women’s games because women have a higher chance of reaching the World Cup before the men. Women’s games are just developing,” he explained.

Kasule’s comments come at a time when international support for gender equity in sport is on the rise. However, locally, women’s competitions still struggle with low visibility and limited backing.

FUFA Match Coordinator Kalungi Salmah echoed this concern, stressing the need for better training, public attention, and access for women to thrive in sports. She said the current environment continues to limit women from reaching their full potential.

With global momentum behind women’s sports building fast, Kasule and Kalungi are urging Uganda to act now—by investing deliberately and consistently—to ensure the country’s female athletes aren’t left behind.
