The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has committed UGX 800 million to the 2025 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon, boosting one of Uganda’s fastest-rising sports tourism events.
The support, coordinated through the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), was officially handed over ahead of the August 23 race in Kasese.
Now in its fourth edition, the marathon has already drawn runners from over 30 countries. Among them are participants from the globally popular Park Runners network, marking a clear step forward in the race’s international appeal.
Organisers say the event is evolving into a must-attend fixture for both elite athletes and adventure seekers, offering a unique blend of physical challenge and scenic immersion.
Runners will take on the tough terrain around the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, with routes that cut across local communities and wildlife corridors.
