The official running kit for the 2025 Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon was unveiled today at the Uganda Breweries plant in Luzira, kicking off the countdown to one of Uganda’s most anticipated race events. The marathon is set for August 23rd in Kasese District.
This year’s race introduces a headline-making twist. For the first time, the 42-kilometre elite marathon will start at the Equator, giving runners the rare chance to cross hemispheres with every stride.
With the towering Rwenzori Mountains looming in the background, the route is expected to deliver both a physical and visual thrill.
Now in its third year, the marathon has grown into a major fixture on Uganda’s sports tourism calendar. It draws local and international runners seeking more than just a competitive race—offering an immersive experience that combines endurance, nature, and adventure.
The scenic course passes through some of Uganda’s most iconic natural landmarks, including sweeping views of the Rwenzori ranges and sections of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Organisers say this year’s edition reinforces the event’s unique identity as a race that champions both fitness and environmental appreciation.
Thousands of runners are expected to take part, ranging from elite professionals to weekend warriors and community participants.
The event continues to promote tourism and sustainability while spotlighting Kasese as a destination for both sport and culture.
