Barcelona have stripped goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen of his captaincy following a disciplinary dispute.
The controversy reportedly stems from the German international’s unwillingness to share his medical data with La Liga, which could impact the club’s ability to register new players.
Ter Stegen, who is recovering from back surgery, had stated he would be out for three months, while La Liga rules require a four-month absence for a player to be considered a long-term absentee.
Barcelona confirmed that Ronald Araujo will take over as captain while the matter is being resolved.
Ter Stegen has been a key player for the club since 2014, winning multiple titles, including the Champions League.
