Veteran defender Savio Kabugo has confirmed his departure from newly promoted Entebbe UPPC FC. Kabugo announced the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday morning.
The experienced defender joined UPPC as a free agent at the start of the 2024/25 season, as part of their efforts to secure an immediate return to the Uganda Premier League. However, after a brief stint with the club, Kabugo has now decided to part ways.
In his farewell post, Kabugo expressed his gratitude to the club: “Good luck in the future, UPPC FC family. You have been more than just a family to me, and you’ll forever hold that place in my heart.”
He continued, “A huge thanks to the entire management, coaches, players, and especially to the fans of Entebbe for their unwavering support. It will never be forgotten.”
Kabugo’s exit from UPPC marks the second time in recent seasons that he’s left a club immediately after its promotion to the top tier of Ugandan football.
The first came earlier this year with Lugazi FC, who had also earned promotion to the Uganda Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign.
UPPC, which was formerly known as Gaddafi FC, is in the final stages of a rebranding process.
While the club officially operated as Gaddafi FC in the 2023/24 season, it will soon adopt the name “Entebbe UPPC FC” ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The club is now owned by the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), based in Entebbe.
As for Kabugo, his next move remains a mystery. What is certain, however, is that the experienced defender will continue his football career, with a potential move to another club on the horizon.
In his career, Kabugo has had stints with several clubs both in Uganda and abroad. Domestically, he’s played for KCCA (across two spells), Victoria University (now defunct), URA, and Proline.
Internationally, he has featured for AS Vita in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia’s Sebeta, and Jwaneng in Botswana.
Kabugo’s next destination is yet to be revealed, but his experience and versatility make him a valuable asset for any club looking to bolster their defence.
