Goalkeeper Samson Kiirya has committed his future to NEC for another year, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club for a third straight season.
Kiirya, who joined NEC in 2023, has been a consistent presence in goal, forming what he calls a “nuclear family” with fellow shot-stopper Hannington, a partnership that dates back to their Makerere University days.
The Sand Cranes goalkeeper credits the club’s coaching staff and supportive environment for helping him stay sharp, both for NEC and for the Uganda Sand Cranes, where he was part of the squad that claimed bronze at the 2022 AFCON Beach Soccer tournament.
Speaking after penning the extension, Kiirya said his decision was driven by belief in NEC’s ambition. The club, fresh from qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time, is targeting silverware in five competitions this season — the FUFA Super 8, Super Cup, Uganda Premier League, Uganda Cup, and the continental campaign.
Kiirya emphasised his desire to help NEC not only challenge locally but also make a mark in Africa, describing the club as “the perfect place to chase those dreams” thanks to strong facilitation and a clear plan for success.
