Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has made a promising start with her new full-time coach, Francis Roig, securing a confident victory over Olga Danilovic at the Cincinnati Open.
The British number one, who hired Rafael Nadal’s former coach, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win in her first match with Roig in her corner.
The victory sees Raducanu advance to the third round, where she will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated her at Wimbledon last month.
“I’m really building some momentum. I’m really happy with how I’ve stayed pretty consistent over the last few months,” said Raducanu after the match.
In other tournament news, newly-crowned Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner won his opening match on the men’s side of the draw.
The US Open, the final Grand Slam of the year, begins on August 24.
