Silverbacks Set for AfroBasket 2025 Tip-Off, Powered by betPawa

The Silverbacks, Uganda’s National Men’s Basketball Team, are gearing up to make another statement on the continental stage as they head to Angola for the AfroBasket 2025 tournament.

With their sights set on surpassing their historic 6th-place finish in 2021, the Silverbacks are stepping onto the court with renewed energy, confidence, and the unwavering backing of their official sponsor, betPawa Uganda.

A true game-changer in the Ugandan sports landscape, betPawa continues to invest significantly in the growth and elevation of basketball across all levels.

As the official sponsor of the Silverbacks, the Gazelles (Uganda’s women’s national basketball team), and the National Basketball League (NBL), betPawa is championing a vision for a stronger, more competitive basketball future in Uganda.

Under the leadership of Coach George Galanopoulos, the Silverbacks have undergone an intense training camp in South Africa, fine-tuning their plays and locking in team chemistry.

Speaking ahead of their tournament opener, Galanopoulos expressed confidence in his squad.

“This is an exciting, balanced group. We’ve got shooters, size, dynamic wings, and high IQ players. The guys are coachable, focused, and hungry.”

“With the kind of support we’ve received from betPawa, the environment has been nothing short of professional.”

betPawa’s contribution has gone beyond the court, supporting logistics, training camps, and ensuring that both players and coaching staff have the resources they need to compete at the highest level.

The Silverbacks will tip off their group stage campaign against Senegal on August 12, followed by Mali on August 14, and close with a showdown against Egypt on August 16.

Veterans like Odoch Opong Robinson and Gue Deng bring experience and leadership, while NBL standouts Fayed Baale (City Oilers) and Ivan Muhwezi (Nam Blazers) inject the squad with youth, energy, and flair, proving that betPawa’s investment in the domestic league is paying dividends on the international stage.

Center Johnathan Komagum summed it up best: “We’re ready. We’ve got the chemistry, the athleticism, and most importantly, the support. Representing Uganda is a blessing, we’re stepping onto the court with pride and purpose.”

As the Silverbacks prepare for tip-off in Angola, the message is clear: Uganda is not just participating, they’re here to compete.

With betPawa’s full-court support, the future of Ugandan basketball has never looked brighter with the Gazelles back from Ivory Coast it’s time to focus on the Silverbacks.
