In a groundbreaking move, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has approved plans for a La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona to be played in Miami, USA.
The game is scheduled for December 21, 2025, at the Hard Rock Stadium.
This decision, if approved by FIFA and UEFA, would mark the first time a European domestic league fixture has been held on foreign soil.
While previous attempts to move La Liga matches to the US have failed, this latest effort signals a new push to globalize the league.
The RFEF’s approval now puts the ball in the court of football’s international governing bodies, who have a working group looking into allowing domestic games to be played abroad.
