Uganda’s Crested Cranes Climb in FIFA Women’s Rankings as Nigeria Keep African Crown

Uganda’s women’s national football team, the Crested Cranes, have taken another small but significant step forward in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking, rising one place to sit 29th in Africa and 147th worldwide.

The improvement comes on the back of solid performances in recent months, including competitive outings against higher-ranked opposition.

While Uganda remains outside the top tier of African women’s football, the steady upward trend signals growing potential ahead of upcoming qualifiers and regional tournaments.

Nigeria still untouchable at the top

At the summit of African women’s football, Nigeria’s Super Falcons remain the continent’s undisputed number one after their triumphant 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana stay second in Africa (49th globally), while Morocco hold third place.

World stage shake-up

Globally, there’s been a reshuffle at the very top. Newly crowned UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 finalists Spain reclaimed the world’s number one spot from the USA, despite losing the final to England.

This is Spain’s second stint at the summit, having previously led from December 2023 to June 2024.

The USA (2nd) trail Spain by less than two ranking points, while Sweden (3rd), England (4th), and Germany (5th) round out the top five.

France made the biggest leap among the elite, jumping to 6th after an eye-catching run at the Euros.

Other movers to watch

Further down the table, Asian and Oceanian teams have made headlines.

Bangladesh surged 24 places to 104th after an inspired AFC qualifying campaign.

Vanuatu (up 19 to 100th) and Solomon Islands (up 13 to 73rd) both achieved new all-time highs.

For Uganda, the next ranking update on 11 December 2025 will be another chance to climb the ladder, and with the Crested Cranes’ growing squad depth and recent investment in women’s football, the signs point to more good news ahead.
