The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has received a fresh boost ahead of its August 23 race day, with Motorcenter East Africa Limited (Kia Motors) committing a Sh50 million sponsorship package and four lead cars to guide runners across the 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km categories.
Motorcenter East Africa CEO Joseph Ssemuwemba said the partnership is driven by the marathon’s growing impact on Kasese and Uganda’s wider tourism sector.
“We believe in supporting initiatives that not only promote sports excellence but also uplift communities and showcase Uganda’s beauty,” Ssemuwemba noted.
Marathon founder Maren Hald Bjørgum stressed the crucial role of the lead cars, explaining they will run from start to finish to ensure athlete safety, maintain pace, and help spectators follow and cheer their favorite runners.
Now in its latest edition, the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has become an international draw, attracting elite athletes and fun runners from across the globe while boosting local businesses and tourism in the Rwenzori region.
