Uganda’s ambitions in wheelchair rugby have gained major momentum with the launch of the first-ever Tugende Wheelchair Rugby Clinic, backed by a donation of nine specialized rugby chairs, gloves, and balls from supporter Fabiano Lioi.
Wheelchair Rugby President Jayrus Wanyera said the immediate priority is building a strong, competitive squad, with plans to host a friendly championship against Kenya in 2026 as a stepping stone toward a Paralympic Games slot.
Event coordinator Mukota added that Tugende is intended to be an annual fixture, giving players consistent opportunities to compete internationally and progress toward Paralympic qualification.
With new equipment in place, Uganda’s players are set to intensify training and strengthen their push for the sport’s biggest stage.
