The Hoima City Stadium is now 89 percent complete, with the $129 million (Shs490.2 billion) project expected to be handed over to the government in October 2025, according to State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang.

Construction, which began in September 2024, has progressed faster than expected.

The Turkish firm Summa, contracted to deliver the 20,000-seater multi-purpose facility, is running ahead of the initial 18-month schedule. The handover in October will pave the way for test runs before the official commissioning.

The outstanding works are largely limited to floor finishing and fitting of amenities, including electrical, and plumbing, and seating installations in the mini indoor arena.

Once complete, the stadium will feature a main football and athletics arena, a 2,000-capacity indoor facility, training pitches, outdoor courts, and a semi-Olympic swimming pool.

The project is one of Uganda’s flagship preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

Officials say the complex is also expected to drive economic activity in Hoima through tourism, hospitality, and trade.
