Brentford have turned down a new £40 million bid from Newcastle for striker Yoane Wissa, despite the player’s strong desire to move to the Magpies.
The offer, which included an initial £35 million fee plus a further £5 million in add-ons, was rejected as it fell below the Bees’ valuation of the 28-year-old forward.
Wissa, who scored 19 Premier League goals last season, has made it clear he wants the transfer, going so far as to remove all association with Brentford from his social media.
This is not the first time Newcastle have tried to sign Wissa; their previous bid was worth up to £30 million.
The forward’s push for a transfer has been ongoing, and he had reportedly expected the move to be sanctioned this week after Brentford completed the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
The club has already lost fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer.
