2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Kicks Off Tomorrow at Lugazi Hills

The 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open tees off tomorrow, August 22, with the Seniors Open setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting edition of Uganda’s premier golf tournament.

This year, the championship moves to the newly opened Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club, giving players and fans a fresh and scenic experience.

The tournament will roll out over several weeks, starting with the Seniors Open on August 22-23, followed by the Ladies Open from August 28-30, the Amateur Open from September 3-6, and culminating with the Professional Open from September 9-13.

Top golfers from across East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa, Europe, and beyond are expected to compete.

Uganda Breweries Limited, through its flagship Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker, is backing the event with a UGX 650 million sponsorship and execution package, marking the brand’s largest investment in the Open since becoming title sponsors.

Johnnie Walker Uganda Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda said the move to Lugazi Hills reflects their commitment to pushing boundaries in golf and delivering a standout tournament experience.

Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, Andrew Kilonzo, highlighted the lifestyle and entertainment aspects of the championship.

“We are not just sponsoring a golf tournament; we’re curating an experience,” he said.

Uganda Golf Union President Dr Jackson Were expressed optimism about the tournament’s potential to grow the game nationally and thanked sponsors for their continued support.

Preparations are in full swing at Lugazi Hills, with organizers ensuring the course is in top condition for both local talent and visiting professionals.
