Jinja SS Bag Uganda’s Only Medals in 2025 FEASSA East African Schools Games Rugby

Jinja Senior Secondary School (Jinja SS) have carried Uganda’s flag high during the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Association (FEASSA) East African Games.

Their girls’ 7s and boys’ XVs teams clinched the country’s only medals in the rugby competition held at the Bull Ring in Kakamega County, Kenya.

Jinja SS girls beat five other schools, including fellow Ugandans Nkoma SS, in the round robin 7s tournament to finish top of the table with twelve points from four wins. Kenya’s St Theresa and Kinale completed the podium.

Final Rankings in Girls’ Rugby 7s:

1. Jinja SS (Uganda) – GOLD
2. St Theresa (Kenya) – SILVER
3. Kinale Girls (Kenya) – BRONZE
4. Saint Joseph’s Kitale (Kenya)
5. Paul Harris (Kenya)
6. Nkoma SS (Uganda)

While girls’ rugby 7s was making their second appearance at the East African games, girls’ rugby XVs is yet to be introduced to the games.

In the boys’ 7s tournament, Makerere College ranked fifth as Uganda’s best ahead of St Mary’s College Kisubi, London College of St Lawrence and Mbarara High School in that order.

Final Rankings in Boys’ Rugby 7s:

1. St Peter’s Mumias (Kenya) – GOLD
2. Bungoma High (Kenya) – SILVER
3. Bwake Boys (Kenya) – BRONZE
4. Koyonzo Secondary (Kenya)
5. Makerere College (Uganda)
6. St Mary’s College Kisubi (Uganda)
7. London College St Lawrence (Uganda)
8. Mbarara High School (Uganda)
9. Gitisi TSS (Rwanda)

Jinja SS boys stunned Kenya’s Upper Hill School by 13-12 (halftime 03-06) to clinch bronze in the Rugby XVs competition. This was Jinja SS’ maiden appearance at the games.

Gold went to Kisii School who beat fellow Kenyan giants All Saints Embu in a high-octane final.

Final Rankings in Boys’ Rugby XVs:

1. Kisii High (Kenya) – GOLD
2. All Saints Embu (Kenya) – SILVER
3. Jinja SS (Uganda) – BRONZE
4. Upper Hill (Kenya)
5. Vihiga High (Kenya)
6. Kings College Budo (Uganda)
7. Namilyango College (Uganda)
8. Busoga College Mwiri (Uganda)

The overall winners of the 2025 FEASSA East Africa Secondary Schools Games will be crowned after the conclusion of all disciplines.
