Scotland’s David Plenderleith and France’s Catherine Pavie emerged winners of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Seniors Open, which concluded on Saturday, August 23, at Lugazi Hills Golf & Country Club.
Plenderleith, who had shared the day-one lead, held steady to finish with a gross score of 167 (+25) across 36 holes. He edged past two-time champion John Muchiri, who settled for second place on 170 (+28). Local contender Tony Kisadha completed the podium in third with 172 (+30).
Michael Cleave placed fourth on 176 (+34), while Uganda’s Joseph Semwaga closed in fifth with 178 (+36). The rest of the top ten included Joseph Bagabo (179), John Katto (180), William Otieno (182), Robert Lim Lim (182), and Zephania Dube (184).
In the ladies’ category, Pavie secured the title with a gross score of 192 (+50). She finished two strokes clear of Katy Kabenge, who posted 194 (+52). Defending champion Edrea Kagombe tied for third with Rose Azuba, both on 199 (+57), while Regina Ddamulira (221), Jennifer Opio (222), Grace Obua (225), and Aphra Basaliza (313) completed the leaderboard. Monica Ntege withdrew from the event after day one.
The Seniors Open served as the opening leg of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship, staged outside Kampala and Entebbe for the first time. The tournament continues with the Ladies Open from August 28–30, followed by the Amateur Open (September 3–6) and the Professional Open (September 9–13).
This year’s championship is headlined by Johnnie Walker and supported by Aquafina, Isuzu, MTN, NBS Sport, MAC Medisell, Bart Africa, and the Uganda Tourism Board.
