Juventus kicked off their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 victory over Parma, with new signing Jonathan David scoring on his debut.
The Canada international, who joined from Lille in July, broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, latching onto a cross from Kenan Yildiz to score from close range at the Allianz Stadium.
The home side was reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute when full-back Andrea Cambiaso received a straight red card for a lashing out at Parma’s Mathias Lovik with his arm.
Despite being a man down, Juventus quickly sealed the win. A minute after the red card, substitute Dusan Vlahovic finished a quick counter-attack, with Yildiz earning his second assist of the match.
Juventus had struggled to break down a resolute Parma defense in the first half. Zion Suzuki, Parma’s goalkeeper, made several key saves, including tipping a header from Francisco Conceicao over the bar and saving a strike from Yildiz.
Elsewhere in Serie A, newly promoted Como secured a 2-0 victory against Lazio. Anastasios Douvikas opened the scoring after a through-ball from Nico Paz. Paz later sealed the three points for Cesc Fabregas’ side with a stunning 30-yard free-kick.
