In a dream start to their new era, Everton opened their magnificent Hill Dickinson Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Brighton, thanks to a stellar performance from new loan signing Jack Grealish.
Grealish, who had a difficult spell at Manchester City, instantly became the focal point of Everton’s attack. He secured two assists within the first 52 minutes of the match, matching his total assist count from the previous two seasons combined at his former club.
The first assist came in the 23rd minute when he drove into the box and crossed for Iliman Ndiaye to score. He later set up James Garner for Everton’s second goal.
Beyond his attacking contributions, Grealish impressed with his work rate, leading the team in possession won and tackles.
His performance earned a standing ovation from the crowd of over 50,000 when he was substituted, and he later told reporters he felt a new sense of freedom on the pitch.
The victory was a perfect start for both Everton and Grealish, providing a much-needed boost after a disappointing season opener.
