Uganda’s rising junior golfer Shaka Kariisa will be part of Team Uganda competing at the Africa Junior Golf Region IV Championship, scheduled for August 26–28 at Tamarina Golf Club in Mauritius.
The event will feature players from Mauritius, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Réunion.
The championship provides a historic platform for junior golfers in the region, aiming to nurture talent, build friendships, and prepare players for future continental and international competitions.
It is modelled on the success of the All-Africa Junior Team Championships, where Uganda has featured prominently in recent years.
Kariisa heads into the tournament fresh from representing Uganda at the 2025 All-Africa Junior Team Championship in Tunisia, where the boys’ team secured a top-five finish.
He played a key role in the campaign, contributing consistently to Uganda’s team totals, including a strong second-round 77 that helped steady the side’s overall performance. Uganda eventually finished fifth out of 12 nations with a combined score of 716.
His individual tally in Tunisia stood at 251 (+35) across three rounds, with his highlight performance coming in Round 2, where his score helped Uganda post their second-best team total of the championship.
Uganda Golf Union officials have emphasised the importance of building continuity by giving promising juniors like Kariisa opportunities to compete in both continental and regional events.
The Region IV Championship, now gaining traction as a fixture on the junior calendar, is expected to further prepare Uganda’s young golfers for higher-level tournaments such as the All-Africa Junior Team Championship and the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup qualifiers.
