SC Villa started their FUFA Super 8 campaign with a 2-1 victory over rivals KCCA in Wednesday’s evening fixture at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
Hassan Mubiru opened the scoring for Villa in the 35th minute after capitalizing on a defensive error.
Andrew Otim doubled the lead late in the second half, striking in the 83rd minute to put the record league champions firmly in control.
KCCA pulled one back through Sammy Sebadduka in the closing stages, but it was not enough to stop Villa from taking bragging rights in one of Uganda’s most heated rivalries.
The return leg will be played after the September international break.
