Newcastle United are set to sign Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, a move that could clear the way for Alexander Isak to join Liverpool.
The 23-year-old Germany international is undergoing a medical after Newcastle reached a deal with Stuttgart.
The transfer fee is expected to be a club record, surpassing the £63 million they paid for Isak.
Newcastle had previously stated they would only sell Isak if they could secure two quality replacements.
Woltemade’s arrival fulfills a key condition and is a major boost for manager Eddie Howe, who has been forced to play winger Anthony Gordon as a makeshift striker.
Woltemade, known as a “two-metre Messi-Musiala,” has been in excellent form, scoring 17 goals last season and six goals at the Under-21 Euros.
His signing gives Liverpool encouragement to return with a new bid for Isak before the transfer window closes.
