In a dramatic reversal, Chelsea has recalled striker Nicolas Jackson from a planned loan move to Bayern Munich after teammate Liam Delap suffered a serious hamstring injury.
Jackson had already flown to Germany for a medical when Chelsea pulled the plug on the deal, reportedly leaving the 24-year-old “angry.”
The decision was made after a remarkable 24-hour period that saw Chelsea’s strike force shrink from four players to just one.
The crisis began with Christopher Nkunku’s permanent transfer to AC Milan and continued with Jackson’s loan and Delap’s injury during the weekend’s win over Fulham. This left Joao Pedro as the club’s only fit senior striker.
Bayern Munich’s director of sport, Max Eberl, confirmed the situation, stating that Chelsea had informed them they wanted the player back. Jackson’s agent, Diomansy Kamara, expressed his frustration on social media.
Former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock commented on the situation, noting the difficulty for a player who feels unwanted but sees a new opportunity.
He suggested Jackson could “change the narrative” by proving his worth back at Stamford Bridge. The shock decision was driven by the club’s new lack of depth up front, despite having several other attacking players and new signings on the way.
