Victoria Pearls to Debut Fresh Kit in Namibia as Cricket Uganda Rebrand Rolls Out

The Uganda Cricket Association has unveiled a new national team jersey as part of its ongoing transformation into Cricket Uganda, marking a significant step in the sport’s rebranding journey.

The jersey was launched on August 30 in Luzira against the scenic backdrop of Lake Victoria, chosen to root the design in Uganda’s heritage.

Featuring the future name “Cricket Uganda” emblazoned across the chest, the kit is dominated by yellow with lemon accents, complemented by black, yellow, and red sleeves.

Partner branding from LycaMobile, the team’s principal sponsor, appears on the sleeves and trousers.

Beyond its striking colors, the jersey incorporates rich cultural symbolism.

Designer Elijah Mangeni Wanyama detailed how the kit pays homage to the “Pearl of Africa,” with subtle drawings of mountain ranges, silverback gorillas, elephants, buffaloes, kobs, rhinos, long-horned cattle, and the crested crane. It also features the Jinja Nile Bridge, reflecting the nation’s blend of tradition and modern progress.

According to Uganda Cricket Association Hon. Secretary Denis Musali, the new jersey represents both national pride and sporting ambition.

“This kit marks the entry into a new World Cup cycle for both the Cricket Cranes and the Victoria Pearls. We wanted something that captures our identity – our pride, our nature, our gorillas, our mountains. When players wear this jersey, they should feel Ugandan-ness flowing through them,” he said.

The Victoria Pearls will be the first to wear the new strip when they face Tanzania at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Finals in Namibia on August 31.

The Cricket Cranes will follow suit later this year when they compete in World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The jersey launch is part of a broader marketing and rebranding effort by the UCA to position Cricket Uganda with a modern, recognizable identity at home and abroad.
