Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been sacked by Bayer Leverkusen after just two league matches in charge, marking the fastest managerial dismissal in Bundesliga history.
The 55-year-old was appointed in the summer to succeed Xabi Alonso, but his tenure ended abruptly after the team managed only a single point from their first two games.
Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes stated that the decision, while painful, was necessary as it had become clear that building a successful team with the current setup was “not feasible.”
The club had lost several key players in the summer, including Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, and brought in a dozen new signings, including three of the club’s most expensive ever.
The team’s poor start, which included a loss to Hoffenheim and a draw to 10-man Werder Bremen, led the club to conclude that a change was needed to achieve their goals for the season.
