URA have confirmed the appointment of Edward Golola as their new first assistant coach, strengthening the club’s technical bench under head coach Alex Isabirye.
Golola, one of the most experienced tacticians in Ugandan football, brings a decorated track record of success at both youth and senior levels.
The 53-year-old, born in December 1971, has already joined the team’s preparations ahead of the new Uganda Premier League campaign.
He holds a UEFA coaching license obtained in Germany, alongside a CAF B license and a Youth Coaching Certificate, qualifications that highlight his ability to balance developmental coaching with top-flight management. Fluent in English, Swahili, and Luganda, Golola is well placed to integrate seamlessly into URA’s diverse football environment.
Golola’s coaching career started with Kampala Citizen FC in 2001, but he rose to prominence during his spells with Vipers SC.
He guided the club to Uganda Premier League titles in 2008 and 2009/10, before adding the Uganda Cup in 2016. His success saw him named Azam Premier League Best Manager of the Year in 2014/15. He later secured the Pilsner Super 8 trophy in 2017/18.
Beyond club football, Golola has also been instrumental in youth development, guiding teams to three Buganda regional titles, nine National Secondary School championships, and nine East African School crowns.
His arrival is expected to give URA both tactical depth and a winning mentality. Club officials believe that the partnership between Isabirye and Golola, backed by a full technical team, will help the Tax Collectors mount a serious challenge in the coming season.
