Uganda’s boxing fraternity has swung its support behind Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president Moses Muhangi, who has declared his intention to contest for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat in 2026 as an independent candidate.
The announcement has been met with excitement among boxing fans and officials, many of whom believe Muhangi’s presence in Parliament could mark a turning point for both the constituency and the sport.
“I believe that when Muhangi enters Parliament, the welfare of boxers will improve, and the sport will finally get the recognition it deserves,” said Senfuka Habibu, one of the long-time boxing enthusiasts.
Muhangi has built a reputation as an outspoken leader and a strong advocate for the sport, often challenging authorities over issues of funding and athlete welfare.
In outlining his political ambition, he said his campaign would focus on fresh leadership, prioritizing the needs of ordinary citizens, and ensuring that voices from Kampala Central are strongly represented in Parliament.
His candidacy now sets up what promises to be a competitive race, with support from the sporting community expected to play a key role in building momentum ahead of 2026.
