FIFA has officially unveiled the Players’ Voice Panel, a 16-member group of football legends committed to leading the fight against racism in the sport.
The announcement marks a historic step in the implementation of FIFA’s Global Stand Against Racism, which was unanimously adopted by all 211 FIFA Member Associations in May 2024.
Panel Line-Up
The panel is headed by honorary captain George Weah (Liberia) and includes notable figures such as: Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Mercy Akide (Nigeria), Didier Drogba (Côte d’Ivoire), Formiga (Brazil), Briana Scurry (USA), Blaise Matuidi (France), and others, representing both men’s and women’s football across the globe.
Mission and Role
The Players’ Voice Panel is tasked with: Promoting education on racism at all levels of football.
Advising FIFA on anti-racism initiatives, driving cultural change and ensuring consistent implementation of anti-racism measures worldwide.
Supporting players, coaches, officials, and fans to recognize, report, and combat racism.
“This panel places players at the heart of the movement to end racism in football,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“These 16 passionate individuals will push for a shift in football culture, ensuring anti-racism measures are not just words, but action, both on and off the pitch.”
Education and Enforcement
The panel will play a central role in: Educating players participating in FIFA youth tournaments about the effects of racism.
Raising awareness of FIFA’s enhanced disciplinary measures, including increased fines and sanctions for racist conduct.
Supporting FIFA’s No Racism and No Discrimination campaigns, including e-learning programs and outreach through the Football for Schools Programme.
A Global Stand
The creation of the Players’ Voice Panel aligns with pillar 5 of FIFA’s Global Stand Against Racism initiative, complementing the other pillars: rules and sanctions, action on the field, criminal charges, and education.
As honorary captain George Weah said, “Football brings unity and development. It also enhances humanity. I am honoured to serve in this role and will continue to promote football as a force for good.”
The Players’ Voice Panel represents a major step forward in FIFA’s ongoing commitment to fight racism and discrimination in football, ensuring accountability, education, and lasting impact across the global game.
