British runner Emile Cairess is setting his sights on a historic medal at the World Championships in Tokyo.
The 27-year-old is aiming to become the first British man ever to win a world marathon medal.
Cairess, the second-fastest British marathon runner in history, enters the competition with confidence after a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics, the best by a British man in 40 years.
He is trying not to focus on the historical significance, instead concentrating on performing to the best of his ability.
Despite a recent ankle injury and bouts of illness affecting his training, Cairess remains dedicated, averaging over 120 miles per week.
Coached by renowned expert Renato Canova, he feels prepared to compete against a tough field and is hopeful of leaving Japan with a medal.
