Entebbe Club’s Vincent Byamukama topped the leaderboard at the 2025 Absa Pro-Am of the Uganda Golf Open on Tuesday, taking first place and a share of the UGX 10 million prize purse.
The one-day Pro-Am, staged at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club, traditionally marks the start of the Johnnie Walker professional event. Zimbabwe’s Tatenda Makunde and South Africa’s Joshua Seale joined Byamukama among the top three finishers.
Beyond the prize money, the event offered added incentive for both professionals and amateurs. The top ten players secured all-expenses-paid slots to compete in the 2026 Magical Kenya Open Pro-Am, one of the region’s premier tournaments.
David Wandera, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, praised the tournament’s impact, saying it provides a rare chance for amateurs to learn from seasoned professionals while building the sport locally. He reaffirmed Absa’s commitment to golf, noting the bank has now sponsored the Open for seven consecutive years.
This year, Absa invested UGX 300 million into the championship. Since the start of the partnership, 53 amateur golfers have benefitted from opportunities to play in Kenya, part of the bank’s long-term effort to strengthen Uganda’s presence in regional golf.
