FC Barcelona are facing a significant financial hit as construction delays at Camp Nou force the club to play its first home matches at the much smaller Estadi Johan Cruyff.
This move comes after the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys became unavailable, pushing back the team’s highly anticipated return to its home stadium.
The club will play its home games against Valencia and Getafe at the 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff stadium. This is a massive downgrade from the 45,000 average attendance at the Lluís Companys last season.
The financial impact is severe. Barcelona’s average matchday revenue at the Lluís Companys was around €2.8 million.
However, the income from the Valencia game at the Johan Cruyff is estimated to be just €370,000. This revenue drop means the club will lose an estimated €4.86 million over the two games.
These delays and subsequent revenue losses are a bitter blow to the club, especially given the financial pressures of their stadium renovation loans.
