Tennis legend Andy Murray is taking on a new challenge, revealing his plan to attempt to qualify for The Open.
Since retiring from tennis, he has drastically improved his golf game, cutting his handicap from seven to two in just one year.
Murray, who recently ended his coaching partnership with Novak Djokovic, said his goal is simply to “not totally disgrace myself” in a regional qualifying tournament.
He has no expectations of making it to The Open itself, but sees the attempt as a fun personal challenge.
He has ruled out a quick return to coaching, citing the heavy travel schedule that would keep him away from his family.
While he enjoyed the experience, he said he has “no interest in doing that just now.” For the time being, his focus is firmly on the golf course.
