Legendary boxer Ricky Hatton has expressed serious concerns about the planned exhibition match between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather, warning that Tyson could get seriously hurt.
Speaking to Metro, Hatton, who is also returning to the ring, criticized those allowing the fight to happen. At nearly 60, Tyson looked “a shadow of his former self” in his last bout against Jake Paul.
Hatton fears the 11-year age gap and Mayweather’s speed will turn the match into a one-sided affair.
“I don’t think Mike will get near him and he’ll be a human punching bag,” Hatton said. “I think Mike could really end up getting hurt.”
Hatton believes the financial incentive is the only reason the fight is moving forward and that the decision should be taken out of the boxers’ hands to prevent them from doing harm to themselves.
