The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), working with the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Association of Secondary School Headteachers of Uganda, has launched the bidding process for the 2026 National Secondary School Championships.
The annual event, one of the biggest on the schools’ calendar, brings together thousands of young athletes from across the country. It covers a wide range of competitions, including the National Ball Games I, boys’ football championship, swimming gala, Ball Games II, athletics, and the elite games.
Schools interested in hosting or co-hosting the championships have until September 30, 2025, to submit their bids. According to USSSA, applications must be delivered to the association’s office at GNS Plaza in Kampala or sent via email, and each submission must be endorsed by the local Resident District Commissioner, Chief Administrative Officer, District Education Officer, and District Sports Officer.
USSSA Chief Executive Officer Mugisha Christopher Banage described the championships as an important platform for spotting and nurturing future talent. “We encourage schools with the facilities, organizational capacity, and local support to step forward and be part of this legacy,” he said.
Hosting schools are expected to demonstrate readiness to provide proper venues, accommodation, feeding arrangements, medical support, and security. USSSA has shared a detailed checklist to guide applicants.
The National Secondary School Championships continue to grow in stature, serving as a launchpad for many athletes who later progress to national and international levels of competition.
